On August 30, nearly 40 people from the DAS and Douglas County enjoyed a perfectly clear dark sky filled with stars, the Milky Way, and at least half a dozen large meteors. These were no shooting stars; they were chunks of space rock that broke into smaller pieces as they burned up, delighting those who were fortunate enough to be looking in the right direction.
