The DAS is always looking for volunteers to pitch in for a wide range of roles throughout the year. Volunteers must be members in good standing to help out. If you are interested in volunteering in any capacity, please email us at info@denverastro.org.

We’re looking for people to:

  • Help operate the 20-inch, 1894 Clark-Saegmuller telescope at Chamberlin Observatory for our Public Nights and Open House events (training required).
  • Present at Public Nights by giving an astronomy talk for our guests while the telescope operators are finding objects in the sky to share.
  • Volunteer with your own telescope at Open House events on the lawn at the Chamberlin Observatory.
  • Sell tickets at Open House events.
  • Presenter at an in-reach meeting by giving an astronomy talk that will inspire others in their pursuit of the hobby.
  • Join the Dark Site Committee members and help be responsible for collaborative decision making and helping accomplish maintenance at our Dark Site.
  • Join the the Van Nattan-Hansen-Anderson Scholarship Committee and help be responsible for scholarship-related decision making as well as promoting the scholarship.
  • Write articles for our online newsletter. Submit original stories about an adventure in astronomy, a project you’ve been working on, or almost anything else astro-related that you’d like to share with our members.
  • Take compelling photographs and capture moments at DAS events, the Chamberlin Observatory and other locations.
  • Help with videography scripting, filming and editing. Help us turn our ideas for DAS-centric videos into a reality, to be posted on our website and YouTube channel.
  • Social Media coordinator: Put our news and stories on the DAS Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram accounts.
  • Help as a mechanical or electrical engineer, to assist at Chamberlin Observatory with telescope and other technical issues.
  • Help with a variety of administrative tasks to make the society run smoothly.
