For over seventy-five years, the Denver Astronomical Society has brought together stargazers across the Denver metropolitan area and beyond. The society hosts dozens of events and activities yearly to promote amateur astronomy across our unique region, one mile nearer the stars.

    Submitting an observation report for April 8. Richard and Lisa Siegel went to Sherbrooke in Quebec to watch the full solar eclipse. Many pictures were taken, but in my opinion, these four “tell the story”.  We had no clouds and temperatures in the 50s so perfect eclipse watching weather. Also the Quebecois were excellent hosts even though we don’t speak French. My husband used a Canon EOS 5D camera with a 70 to 200 mm lens.  Lens was set at 200 but he used an 2x optical multiplier which took him to 400.  And he used an iOpton Sky Guide…

  • Jack Eastman goes eclipse viewing!

    Longtime DAS Member and Chief Observer Jack Eastman traveled to Poplar Bluff, Missouri via Texas, courtesy of his friend and caregiver Dave Zielsdorf, to see the April 8 solar eclipse. Jack took his antique 3.5″ Alvan Clark & Sons telescope (circa 1870), using the Herschel wedge to make projections during the partial phases, then doing direct observations through it during the total phase.   • Accepting Scholarship Applications Through June 15!

    We are now accepting applications for Van Nattan-Hansen-Anderson Scholarship recipients for 2024. Established in 1973, the Denver Astronomical Society’s Van Nattan-Hansen-Anderson Scholarship (VNHA) supports graduating high school and undergraduate college students majoring in astronomy and the physical sciences. Each year, scholarships may be awarded to students in good academic standing who have demonstrated intent and merit to pursue a career in the physical sciences or mathematics. VNHA gives priority to students of astronomy, astrophysics, and related fields. To apply, applicants should complete the application process at THIS LINK starting April 1 each year. The Denver Astronomical Society hosts weekly and monthly events* at the University of Denver’s historic Chamberlin Observatory, which features its prized 1894 Alvan Clark-Saegmuller 20-inch refracting telescope. The Observatory serves as the DAS home base for numerous Astronomy Nights, Open Houses, and special events throughout the year.

Due to overwhelming demand, we are changing how we reserve our Astronomy Nights and adding more to the calendar. For details, see our Reservations page.

Astrophotography Special Interest Group

The Denver Astronomical Society (DAS) has established a Special Interest Group amongst its members devoted to Astrophotography. Do you want to learn or improve your skills in astrophotography? Do you enjoy viewing pictures of the Sun, Moon, Planets, or Deep Sky Objects? Can you take similar images? You may have skills that you could pass on to novice members. The Van Nattan-Hansen-Anderson Scholarship

Established in 1973, the DAS Van Nattan-Hansen-Anderson Scholarship supports graduating high school and undergraduate college students majoring in astronomy and the physical sciences. Interested and eligible students are invited to apply for funding on the Scholarship Page.
