  • Check out the early morning Planet ParadeWith the help of binoculars or a small a telescope, Neptune and Uranus are visible along with naked-eye planets Jupiter, Venus, and Saturn across the ecliptic line (the path the sun takes through the sky) in the early morning sky through the first several weeks of August.

  • Look for the Great Square rising. This asterism gracing our skies tells us that autumn is on its way. Look for it in the eastern sky in Pegasus around 11:00 PM.

You can keep track of the activity of meteor showers as well as those beyond the limits of visual observing by visiting the NASA Meteor Shower Portal.

  • alpha Capricornids (CAP): 1:00 AM in northwestern Capricornus: 5 per hour
  • Southern delta Aquariids (SDA): 4:00 AM in western Aquarius: 3 per hour
  • Perseids: last hour before dawn in western Perseus: 3 per hour.
  • Anthelion (ANT): 2:00 AM in central Capricornus: 3 per hour.
