Solar Eclipse-Watching Party

See April’s partial solar eclipse with the Denver Astronomical Society.

The Great American Eclipse of 2024 is just around the corner. A total solar eclipse will occur in a narrow path of totality from Texas northeast to Maine on Monday, April 8th. People in the remainder of the 48 contiguous states won’t be able to see the total solar eclipse but will get a decent partial solar eclipse – including here in Colorado. To accommodate those who would like to see the solar eclipse but won’t be traveling to the path of totality, DAS is planning to hold a special FREE partial solar eclipse observing event at the University of Denver’s historic Chamberlin Observatory on April 8th, weather permitting.

DAS members will have solar telescopes and other equipment on the park lawn for public observation. Bring lawn chairs, sunscreen, and a hat. If you have a solar telescope, bring it to the event and share the view with others. The partial eclipse begins at 11:28 a.m. MDT; maximum obscuration occurs at 12:40 p.m., and the partial eclipse ends at 1:54 p.m. It would be a good idea to arrive early to find a parking place. Eclipse glasses will be available for purchase (while supplies last), and the observatory building will be open for restroom access.

DAS’s website includes a solar eclipse page that has information about the upcoming eclipse, observing safety, and more:

https://www.denverastro.org/eclipses/

DAS will have eclipse glasses available for sale at the event.

The event is finished.
