- The Waxing Gibbous Buck Moon reaches its Ascending Node as our satellite moves from south to north of the earth’s orbital plane around the sun. 5:54AM
August 1:

- Northern Colorado Astronomical Society: Loveland Star Party: FREE, in-person event at Prairie Ridge Natural Area: (registration required) 8:30PM
August 2:

- Mercury reaches its greatest eastern elongation at 2:00 AM, positioning it at its highest point in the eastern morning sky in the constellation Gemini around 5:00AM
This Week’s Solar System Summary:
- The Sun rises about 6:02 AM at the start of the week and about 6:07 AM by Sunday, while sunset shifts from 8:12 PM to 8:06 PM. Daylight continues to shorten as Denver moves deeper into late summer, though there are still nearly 14 hours of daylight each day.
- The Moon rises in the morning at the start of the week and shifts into the afternoon and evening hours by the weekend, while moonset moves from the overnight hours into the morning.
- Venus remains the brightest object in the evening sky after the Moon, shining low in the west after sunset and setting between 11:30 PM and 11:45 PM.
- Mercury begins emerging from the Sun’s glare following inferior conjunction. By the end of the week, it reaches its greatest western elongation and experienced observers with a clear eastern horizon may catch it very low in the predawn twilight.
- Jupiter reaches conjunction with the Sun this week and will be all but impossible to observe until it starts to emerge into the morning sky.
- Saturn rises during the evening hours and is well placed for observation through the night. By dawn, it stands high in the southern sky and is becoming one of the season’s best telescopic targets.
- Mars remains low in the eastern dawn twilight and is difficult to observe, though it slowly gains separation from the Sun.
- Uranus rises after midnight and is well positioned for telescopic observation during the hours before dawn.
- Neptune rises in the evening and remains observable throughout most of the night, reaching a favorable altitude for telescopic viewing before sunrise.

- Southern Delta Aquariids (SDA): Peak on the nights of July 29–30 in Aquarius: About 10–15 per hour
- Alpha Capricornids (CAP): Peak around July 30 in Capricornus: About 2–5 per hour.
- Anthelion (ANT): 1:00 AM in western Sagittarius: About 2 per hour.
- Piscis Austrinids (PAU): After midnight in Piscis Austrinus: Less than 1 per hour.
- Perseids (PER): Before dawn in Perseus: About 3–5 per hour
- ρ-Cygnids (RCY): Before dawn in Cygnus near Sadr: Less than 1 per hour.
- κ-Cygnids (KCG): Before dawn in Cygnus: Less than 1 per hour.
- July Pegasids (JPE): Before dawn in Pegasus: Less than 1 per hour.
