Chamberlin Open House Canceled

Unfortunately, this weekend’s Denver Astronomical Society Open House, scheduled for Saturday, January 24, has been canceled due to weather.

The forecast is calling for bitterly cold temperatures along with snow Friday night into Saturday, creating conditions that aren’t safe or comfortable for our volunteers or visitors. While we never like to cancel an event, the safety of our community always comes first.

We’ll See You in February🤞!

The good news? Open Houses happen every month, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back in February.

DAS Open Houses take place at dusk on the south lawn of DU’s historic Chamberlin Observatory (2930 E. Warren Avenue, Denver). Visitors can look through the observatory’s 20-inch Alvan Clark–Saegmuller refractor telescope (a $2 donation is suggested; free for DAS members and DU students) and meet fellow amateur astronomers who set up their own telescopes on the lawn.

If you’re new to astronomy or recently received a telescope, we encourage you to come early and bring it with you. DAS members are happy to help you get set up before dark. Don’t have a telescope yet? No problem—join us on the lawn just south of the observatory to explore the night sky through a variety of member-owned telescopes.

Still Looking for Astronomy This Saturday?

If you’re still hoping to get your astronomy fix this weekend, consider Standley Lake Stargazing at the Majestic View Nature Center. This program offers a night of indoor astronomy, making it a great cold-weather alternative. Learn more and register here: https://www.arvadaco.gov/Calendar.aspx?EID=3548

Thank you for your understanding, and we hope to see you soon—clear skies in February!
