  • Even though we’re a month away from the summer solstice, you can tell that summer is imminent when the Summer Triangle asterism begins to rise earlier in the eastern night skies. The Summer Triangle is formed by three bright stars—Vega in the constellation Lyra, Altair in Aquila, and Deneb in Cygnus—that create a large, nearly equilateral triangle and serve as celestial signposts to their respective constellations and the rich regions of the Milky Way: 11:00 PM

  • Moon at Ascending Node: 2:00 AM
  • Look for the waning crescent Flower Moon near Saturn in the morning sky before sunrise.

You can keep track of the activity of meteor showers as well as those beyond the limits of visual observing by visiting the NASA Meteor Shower Portal.

  • Anthelion (ANT): 1:00 AM local time in eastern Libra: 1 per hour.
  • eta Aquariids (ETA): last hour before dawn in northeastern Aquarius: 1-2 per hour.
