Observing Pluto: from Earth and Up-close

Dr. Leslie Young is a Planetary Astronomer who served as Deputy Project Scientist for NASA’s New Horizons mission to Pluto. She was on the team that discovered Pluto’s atmosphere in 1988, and received her PhD in astronomy at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1994 on Pluto and Charon. She continued to study Pluto, Charon, and tenuous atmospheres in the outer solar system. She has been working on New Horizons since 2000, including coordinating the science plans for the flyby.

Prior to the presentation there will be a short business meeting. Following the meeting there will be a reception at DU’s Historic Chamberlin Observatory to which everyone will be invited. Coffee and other refreshments will be served.
