Bruce Bookout

Navigating the Ancient Sky: Cosmologies of Native American Tribes

Bruce Bookout served as a US Air Force Space Operations officer commanding various on-orbit satellites such as Global Positioning System (GPS) and Defense Support System (DSP) spacecraft. He managed various Space Surveillance systems, both optical and radar facilities, providing critical data for the national Satellite Catalogue.

Bruce has spent the last 15 years in Defense contracting as a Program Manager in various classified Space/Missile Operational contracts ranging from Diego Garcia to Schriever AFB.

As an adjunct professor he has taught a range of classes from basic Astronomy, Astrophysics and ArcheoAstronomy. He has also served as the Director of the Rocky Mountain Star Stare for the last seven years and is a primary outreach member for the Colorado Springs Astronomical Society.

Bruce earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Physics and a Master’s of Science degree in Space Systems Operations Management.

The General Meeting is open to the public. As usual, it will start with an introduction of new members and guests, a short business meeting, and observing reports. After Mr. Bookout’s presentation, everyone is invited to a reception at Chamberlin Observatory, where coffee and refreshments will be served.
