A Tour of Messier Catalog Highlights

Alex Geldzahler with Neil deGrasse Tyson at the Bellco Theater last October for “An Astrophysicist Goes To The Movies”

Join DAS member Alex Geldzahler (right) for an overview of the locations and characteristics of selected Messier objects.

For many members, trying to observe them all and qualify for a Messier certificate is a daunting challenge but also a worthy goal.

If skies permit, be prepared to head outside and begin your hunt!

DAS Summer Picnic @ DU's Historic Chamberlin Observatory
Jul 13 @ 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm

Held every year in July on the North Lawn of Chamberlin Observatory the DAS Picnic is a family event for DAS members and guests. The DAS EBoard provides BBQ meats (pork, chicken and beef), fixings (salads, rolls and sauces). DAS members bring side dishes like casseroles, fruit & veggie plates, and desserts.

After the picnic, we’ll set up our telescopes and ready the Clark-Saegmuller refractor in the observatory for the July Open House on the South Lawn to provide the public with views of a parade of major planets: Mars (late), Saturn, and Jupiter.
